About ALTDATA
We close the data gap.
ALTDATA is an Adelaide-based deep-tech company building the tools that turn data scarcity into an advantage: physics-anchored digital twins and privacy-safe synthetic data for research-intensive teams.
Mission
Progress in research runs on data. We make more of it.
In biotech, healthcare and space, the data that drives progress is the hardest to get: scarce, expensive, slow, or locked behind privacy law. Most teams either burn their budget gathering it or settle for black-box AI that fails the moment it leaves the paper.
We took a different path: build the data. Simulate it with a physics-anchored digital twin, or synthesise it as privacy-safe datasets. Either way, scarcity stops being the thing that slows you down.
Our story
How ALTDATA started.
ALTDATA was founded in 2022 in Adelaide, around a problem its founders kept running into: the data that matters most in research is the data you can’t get. Too scarce, too slow, too expensive, or locked behind privacy law. The answer wasn’t better analytics on data nobody had. It was to build the data itself.
Today the team works out of Adelaide University’s Innovation & Collaboration Centre, with a core group here in South Australia. The company is majority Australian-owned.
What we do
Two engines, one problem: the data gap.
Innovation ecosystem
Built where research meets commercialisation.
We’re based at Adelaide University’s Innovation & Collaboration Centre (ICC), in the middle of South Australia’s deep-tech and space community. It keeps us close to the science we build on, and to the researchers, founders and agencies turning it into real-world outcomes.
In July 2026 we were selected for the 2026 Venture Catalyst Space cohort, the ICC’s six-month space accelerator delivered with the South Australian Space Industry Centre. Eight South Australian startups were chosen. Since 2018 the program has backed 54 startups and 100 founders.
Research & grants
Backed by Australia’s research and innovation programs.
In August 2025 we were selected, with Sascan Meditech, for the CSIRO Innovate to Grow – Health Care Innovation Program, working with industry experts, researchers and mentors to turn our ideas into fundable R&D.
In February 2026 we joined a project awarded $150,000 through Round 3 of the South Australian Space Collaboration and Innovation Fund, facilitated by the South Australian Space Industry Centre and the Defence Innovation Partnership. It’s led by ResearchSat, with ALTDATA and AICRAFT as partners, and it takes our digital twin work to the International Space Station. Read the case study →
Partnerships
Who we work with.
We work alongside research and industry partners. With ResearchSat and AICRAFT we’re building physically validated microgravity digital twins, backed by the SA Space Collaboration and Innovation Fund. With Sascan Meditech we’re developing the AI analytics layer for point-of-care precancer screening.
We also work with HEX20 and Trizlabz.
Leadership
The team.
We’re a small, deliberately technical team: engineers and researchers spanning machine learning, computer vision, simulation, space technology and medical technology. The people who talk to you about your problem are the people who build the answer.
Want to know who you’d be working with? Ask us, and we’ll introduce the team on the walkthrough.
Why ALTDATA
Four reasons research teams trust us.
Physics, not hype
Our twins are anchored in real physics and calibrated against real data. We earn trust through validation, not adjectives.
Confidence you can defend
Every virtual result is scored; every synthetic dataset validated. Built to survive technical due diligence.
Proven where it’s hard
Biomedical research and space: regulated, high-stakes domains. Selected for CSIRO Innovate to Grow; partnered on an ISS mission backed by the SA space fund.
Built by researchers
Selected for Adelaide University’s 2026 Venture Catalyst Space cohort. We turn R&D into production AI.
Bring us your hardest data problem.
Bring us the model you're trying to build, or the experiment you can't afford to run. We'll show you what's possible.
